Journaling with Hobonichi

My journaling is part paper crafting, part writing, photography, part watercolor part scrapbooking and whatever else I decide to try. I really appreciate the strength and durability of the Hobonichi journals and the paper.

I especially like printing on different papers: vellums, transparencies, etc.

2024

It has been a good year so far! I am especially exploring collage this year.

My creative place

2023

Covid overall put a big damper on many of my creative ambitions, especially towards the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023. Since then, and with the help of some very creative groups I participate with, this year went much better.

2022

Some samples from 2022: I was using my journal for recording a number of different pursuits while staying fairly close to home, but traveling on some wonderful road trips while trying to avoid illness. Unfortunately in spite of all precautions, Covid hit and put a big damper in most activities for the last part of the year.

2021

2021 turned out to be a rough year with rampant Covid, the revolt on Jan 6, and so much more.

Staying home became quite important, and I found myself working more on several skills relating to watercolor, writing, reading, digital art, and even a bit of poetry.

2020

The year that Covid came into everyone’s life. Travel was a part of life until March, when we visited a well known outdoor arboretum and found they were closing the day after due to Covid.

I created a printed journal project that utilized my own photographs which I digitally rendered to create a particular look. I had a lot of fun working with various apps for manipulating the graphics into different looks.

2019 and prior

When I began Hobonichi journaling in 2017 I used the smaller (original A6) size) book. After a couple of years I realized that I really wanted and needed additional page space to enjoy the process, so I began using the Hobinichi Cousin, which is A5 Size.

Covers I have created and used
